Buddleia Walk with a glass of Rose @ Banks Barn, Upper Oddington, GL56 0XG

Following the Open Gardens in Oddington in July which went very well with the new socially distanced format, a number of you asked whether it would be possible to return to Banks Barn when the Buddleia were out and in their full glory.

It is rather difficult to predict when the weather will be good and when all the buddleia will be at their best as different varieties flower at different times. But in anticipation of us guessing about right, we have decided to open the buddleia walk this Thursday, the 23rd when you can wander around with a glass of Rose or two and hopefully see the butterflies which flock to this plant too…all in aid of the two churches in Oddington.

The walk on the edge of the meadow is planted with over 90 Buddleia with over 60 different varieties of this wonderful plant which is so attractive to butterflies and other pollinators. Some of these have been in situ for 5 or 6 years now whilst others are still establishing, but starting to flower all the same. The majority of the plants have been supplied by The Lavender Garden near Dursley run by Andrew Bullock who holds a National Collection of Buddleia. Whilst it is difficult to keep count of what we have, the majority are represented here.

We are asking for £10 p/p which includes your first glass of rose and a guide to the buddleia planted, and further glasses of rose can be bought for £5.

23 July 4pm to 7pm weather permitting. If it looks as though the weather is going to be terrible, then we will re-arrange for another day very soon. We will let everyone know.

Please note that there is a one way walk around the buddleia and please maintain social distancing. The meadow, whilst past its best, it still also worth a walk around, but note there are bee hives up there.

We have tried to spread out the visitor numbers at any one time by having a 3 hour open period. If in the unlikely event that more than 30 people are on the walk at any one time, we may need to ask arriving visitors to wait a short while to comply with current government restrictions on the maximum number of people allowed in outdoor gatherings.

£10 entry per person all of which goes to the upkeep of the two churches in Oddington. Extra rose £5 per glass. We do not have cashless systems to take payment so please bring the old fashioned money.
